 Volunteering at the Library

FAQ:

  1. Who can be a teen volunteer?

Any Chatham resident enrolled in grades 6-12. Volunteers are encouraged to obtain a library card.

  2. What do I need to do to become a volunteer?

In order to volunteer, you will need to fill out an application. If you are under the age of 18, you will also need a parent/guardian to sign the application.

  3. When can I apply to become a volunteer?

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. In other words, you can apply at any time.

  4. What kinds of tasks can I expect to be doing?

Volunteers may be asked to help out with a variety of tasks throughout the library. This may include participation in the library’s Teen Advisory Board, being a Tech Buddy, Reading Buddy or Book Reviewer, and helping with programs & crafts, amongst other tasks.

  5. How can I prove that I was an active volunteer for the library?

Since many volunteers need community service hours for various local groups that they take part in, a letter can be provided. The teen librarian will also be available to sign off on any forms that volunteers may already have for certain obligations. Please note that we require 48-hours’ notice when such a letter is needed. Signatures on forms can be requested the same day they are needed, pending librarian availability.

 Scout Project Requests

We are so excited that you are interested in partnering with the library to complete your service project! Due to a variety of factors, we are only able to accept three (3) projects per calendar year (January-December). Projects will be selected based on submission date and completeness: only projects that have been completely thought through with a clear goal and plan will be accepted.

We will be considering new projects beginning in January 2025. In order to be considered, please complete the application below:
