Cinema214: The Hate U Give (PG-13, 133min)

Rated PG-13 and runs 133 minutes.

Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.  Join us on Thursday, January 24 at 7 pm.

Home for Good Dog Rescue

Jennifer Heiner, foster coordinator at Home for Good Dog Rescue in Berkeley Heights, will talk about the rescue.  Home for Good has rescued over 6,500 dogs in eight years from high kill shelters in the South.  The goal is to socialize, nurture, and provide life-saving medical care for these dogs so they can be fostered in families and finally adopted into loving homes—giving them a second chance at life.  Please join us and meet several current fosters and their dogs.
