Lecture: Martin Luther King, Newark, and the Cool Spring of 1968

Mark Krasovic, assistant professor and Interim Director of the Clement A. Price Institute at Rutgers University in Newark, will hold a lecture featuring Newark in the late 60’s during the rise of black power and violence.  Examining events often overshadowed by great attention paid to the uprising of 1967, the first National Conference on Black Power held in Newark after the riots, Martin Luther King’s visit to Newark in March 1968, and the aftermath of his assassination, this lecture will offer new historical perspectives of Newark, black power, and the legacy of the 1960’s.  Please join us Tuesday, May 8 at 7 pm.  You may sign up online or call the library at 973-635-0603.
