Documentary filmmaker, Scott Morris will present his film, Saving the Great Swamp on Thursday, May 24 at 7 pm and will be available to answer questions concerning the project. In 1959, the Port Authority of New York announced it was planning to build a 10,000 acre jetport in the rural area known as the Great Swamp. The proposal included filling in the Swamp and demolishing 700 homes and destroying the habitat of 220 bird and 33 mammal species, as well as many reptile, amphibian, and fish species. Local residents fought the plan and eventually won through acquisitions of swampland; therefore making it a National Wildlife Refuge in 1964. Please join us, and meet the producer of this empowering film. Pre-registration is requested. You may sign up online or call the library at 973-635-0603.
