ESL - English as a Second Language

For anyone wanting to improve their English language skills, we are starting our first ever ESL program.  The program will be conducted by Language Education and Resource Network (LEARN) and volunteer tutors for 8 weeks on Thursdays from May 3 through June 21.  Further sessions may be offered depending on demand.  Students will be divided into small groups by skill level.  Books and other learning materials will be provided.  The program is free – all you need is a commitment to learn!

Guided Meditation Class

Jean Leigh of Morristown has practiced meditation for most of her life, and is skilled at the Sufi Meditation of the Heart, Art of Happiness Meditation, and the Buddhist Vipassana Loving Kindness Meditation.  Jean will be holding a class Saturday, June 23 at 10 am.  and will focus on breathing, practicing several different ways to focus on the inhalation, exhalation, holding of the breath, and the period in between where one is neither inhaling or exhaling.   Please bring a yoga mat, meditation cushion, or blanket to the class.  There will also be chairs for seated meditation.  You may wish to bring a notepad or journal to record your thoughts during the session.  Please sign up online or call the library at 973-635-0603.

Italian Conversation Group

Are you a bit rusty with your Italian language skills?  Luciana Santoriello and Carmen Del Guercio-Evans will moderate Italian discussion groups.  Join us Friday, June 15 at 1 pm or Tuesday, June 26 at 7:15 pm and these fluent speakers will help you and others get a conversation going.

Book Group—Readers’ Choice Hogarth Press Shakespeare Retellings

The group will discuss Hogarth Pres Shakespeare retellings on Wednesday, June 27 at 1 pm. You can read one or more to these three titles: New Boy by Tracy Chevalier (Othello), Vinegar Girl by Anne Tyler (The Taming of the Shrew), or Hag Seed by Margaret Atwood (The Tempest). Everyone is welcome to attend. Copies will be available at the reference desk.
