Board Members
Andy Hollander, a Chatham Borough resident, serves as President of the Board of Trustees of the Library of the Chathams. Since joining the Board in 2011, he has held several leadership roles, including four years as Secretary.
President since 2018, Andy oversees the Library’s governance, supports community initiatives, and represents the Library in public communications and major projects, including the renovation and fundraising efforts.
Andy is an experienced intellectual property attorney with both law firm and in-house leadership experience, including serving as chief intellectual property counsel for a global company. He advises on all aspects of intellectual property law, and speaks and writes on legal and business dimensions of intellectual property. He is an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School, where he has taught the courses “Trademark Registration” and “Patent Law”. Andy earned a J.D. from Cornell Law School, an M.S. from Fordham University, and a B.A. in English from Wesleyan University.
Andy and his wife, Dorothy Frank, have been longtime Chatham residents. They have two adult sons and a dog named Lola. A dedicated supporter and frequent patron of the Library, Andy is committed to ensuring that the Library of the Chathams remains a welcoming, vibrant, and an essential resource for the entire community.
When Andy reflects on the causes and institutions that matter most to him, lifelong learning, building bridges in the community, information literacy, and civic engagement come to mind. For him, the Library embodies all these values, a place that enriches lives, strengthens connections, and serves the entire community.
Kevin Sullivan, Vice President
Kevin Sullivan serves as Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Library of the Chathams and has been a trustee since 2014. A Chatham Township resident for more than 20 years, he is committed to ensuring the Library remains a vibrant resource for learning, connection, and community.
Kevin brings decades of leadership experience in public service, the financial services industry, and the military. He is the former Mayor of Chatham Township and Township Committee Member, as well as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. During his years of public service, he worked collaboratively on initiatives including the preservation of the 136-acre Giralda Farms property, police department accreditation, and the establishment of a township-wide Neighborhood Watch program. Throughout his service, he has also contributed to numerous local boards and committees focused on open space, recreation, public safety, and environmental stewardship.
A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, where he participated in Naval ROTC (Marine Option), Kevin has worked in the financial services industry since 1989. His career has included leadership roles in fixed-income and OTC options sales, investment banking, and advisor engagement. He currently serves as Enterprise Growth and Advisor Engagement at Private Advisor Group in Morristown, New Jersey.
Kevin and his wife, Cindy, have made Chatham their home for more than two decades. He believes libraries play an essential role in strengthening communities and is proud to support the Library of the Chathams in serving residents today and for generations to come.
Susan Allen, a Chatham Township resident, has served on the Library of the Chathams Board of Trustees since 2015 and currently serves as Board Secretary. A passionate advocate for local history, she is especially dedicated to preserving and promoting the library’s renowned New Jersey Room and its unique collection of historical materials.
Susan earned a bachelor’s degree in art history with a minor in Elementary Education from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. Her professional career included several years as a sales representative for Federal Express in Atlanta and Chicago, followed by work as a travel agent in Chicago.
Deeply committed to the sharing and preservation of Chatham’s history, Susan has been an active leader within the Chatham Historical Society for 24 years. She served as President from 2007 – 2015, among other projects, she has worked on the preservation of the collection, including the digitization of a large glass negative collection, as well as obtaining Grants for storage facilities and has helped bring exceptional speakers to Society programs. Her dedication has played an important role in protecting and celebrating Chatham’s rich heritage.
Susan and her husband, Jay Allen, are longtime supporters of the Library, and in 2025, they made a significant philanthropic contribution to the library’s major building project. Jay lent his expertise in campaign management, drawing on experience as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at his alma mater, Wabash College.
She and Jay are proud parents and grandparents and share their home with two beloved cats. Susan strengthens the library’s role as a vibrant cultural, educational, and historical resource for the Chathams.
Mariela Gilmore, a Chatham Borough resident, has been an active volunteer with the Library of the Chathams since 2021 and currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees. She served on the library’s CODA (Coming Out of the Dark Age) Task Force, the group responsible for advancing initiatives that make the library more welcoming, accessible, and community-centered.
Mariela’s connection to the library began as a parent, bringing her children to programs and activities, and as a regular supporter of the library’s annual book sales. In 2024, she was invited to join the Board of Trustees and was delighted by the opportunity to become even more involved in supporting the library’s mission. She and her husband, Miles, have also contributed to local history efforts, including the Veterans Project of the Chathams.
An experienced financial services professional with more than 20 years in banking, Mariela has expertise in structured wholesale lending, credit risk assessment and contract negotiation on transactions with domestic and international clients.She holds a Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Universidad del Pacífico in Peru. Her expertise in risk management and analytical decision-making informs her thoughtful approach to library leadership and service.
Mariela and Miles have two children, Daniel and Karina, and their dog, Chase.
She is committed to supporting the library’s mission and ensuring it remains a welcoming, dynamic resource for the entire community.
Lynn Magrane, a Chatham Borough resident, serves as a Trustee of the Library of the Chathams and as Treasurer of the Chatham Library Foundation, a role she has held for the past two years, helping support the library’s long-term financial stewardship and future growth.
Lynn brings her leadership and collaborative approach to several board committees, including Building & Grounds, Finance, Strategic Planning, and Transition, helping guide initiatives that strengthen the library and enhance its service to the community. Throughout her years in Chatham, she has organized numerous fundraising efforts for local organizations, served on the Chatham Historic Preservation Commission, and volunteered in her children’s schools.
A graduate of Drew University with a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Lynn has a lifelong passion for local history. She is Program Chairwoman and an active member of the Chatham Historical Society, where she helps preserve and share the community’s rich heritage through educational programs, research, and public outreach.
Her connection to the library extends back to her university days, when she participated in an archaeological excavation on the library grounds that uncovered artifacts from the former Fairview House Hotel. She later helped research and identify many of those artifacts, bringing an important piece of Chatham’s history to life.
Beyond her work with the library and historical society, Lynn volunteers as an instructor at Northern State Prison, where she teaches courses in behavior modification and stress management. Her dedication to education, lifelong learning, and community service reflects the values she brings to the library.
Lynn and her husband, Scott, enjoy a busy family life with their five children and ten grandchildren. She believes the Library of the Chathams is a true community gathering place where people of all ages come together to learn, connect, and grow.
Dr. Christina Mott, a Chatham Township resident, has served the Library of the Chathams Board of Trustees for almost six years. Her involvement began as a Friends of the Library book sale volunteer and in 2019 she joined the Friends of the Library Board. She was honored to be asked to join the Library Board of Trustees in 2021 and has played a key role in several major initiatives, including serving on the Strategic Planning Committee, and helping recruit and establish the Chatham Library Foundation by chairing the Library’s Transition Team.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan before beginning her career as a contract chemist and later as a laboratory technician. She worked in a natural products drug discovery laboratory at Merck and a bacterial signaling laboratory at Columbia University before earning her Ph.D. in Microbiology from Columbia University, where she defended her dissertation “Investigations further elucidating Rad59 function in Saccharomyces cerevisiae” in 2010.
After living in London for five years, Christina made Chatham her home and quickly embraced the community through her active involvement and leadership in the public schools. At Southern Boulevard Elementary School, she held the Communications Chair position for the After School Enrichment (ASE) committee. As PTO STEM Coordinator, she led initiatives including Hour of Code for Computer Science Awareness Week and Parent STEM Talks, bringing parents from the community into the classroom to share their professional expertise and career journeys in their respective fields.
Christina, and her husband Bill, are grateful to be part of the Chatham community. They are happy to raise their two sons, Peter and David, in a community where diligence and education are valued. She sees the library as a vibrant place for gathering and discovery, representing our community’s enthusiasm for nurturing lifelong learners. She believes the library is Chatham’s essential “third space”—a welcoming place beyond home, work, or school that serves every member of the community and encourages residents to make the most of all it has to offer.
Carolyn Dempsey, Borough Mayor
Carolyn Dempsey, Mayor of Chatham Borough and a longtime Borough resident, has called Chatham home for more than two decades. She is deeply committed to strengthening the community’s civic, cultural, and educational life. Before becoming mayor, Carolyn served two terms on the Chatham Borough Council, including as Council President, where she championed transparency, community engagement, and thoughtful long-term planning.
A lifelong educator and arts advocate, Carolyn has worked as a music and Spanish teacher and led early childhood music programs at the Library of the Chathams, delighting preschoolers with songs and guitar. She earned a B.A. in Russian/Soviet Studies with a minor in Spanish from the College of William & Mary, beginning a career that would bring together her interests in language, culture, education, the arts, and public service. Early in her career, she worked for a U.S. Congressman, trained in theater in New York City, and performed in stage and television productions before transitioning to education and public service.
In addition to her public service, Carolyn is an active community volunteer. She is a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where she has served in numerous leadership and service roles, including the Church Council, choir, and as a Lay Assistant Minister. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Great Swamp Watershed Association and is co-founder of the Chatham Community Food Distribution.
Carolyn also serves on the Library’s STAY Advisory Committee, an initiative focused on adult education for suicide prevention. The committee helps equip community members with education, resources, and practical strategies to support young people and recognize when someone may be in crisis.
Carolyn lives in Chatham Borough with her husband, Brian, and their three children, Sam, Calder, and Austen. As a parent, educator, mayor, and longtime library supporter, she believes the Library of the Chathams is a welcoming place where learning, connection, and community come together.
Marty McHugh, Township Representative
Marty McHugh, a Chatham Township Resident, has been an active member of the Chatham community for many years, contributing his time and expertise across a range of volunteer roles. He has served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Environmental Commission, and coached numerous Chatham recreation sports teams for both boys and girls.
As a Library of the Chathams Trustee, Marty serves on the Building & Grounds Committee, where he is a key contributor. His extensive engineering knowledge and hands-on experience are invaluable in evaluating facility needs, supporting maintenance planning, and guiding long‑term improvements to the library’s physical infrastructure.
Professionally, Marty operates an independent international business development firm that he has owned for more than 20 years.
Marty and his wife, Lisa, have been residents of Chatham Township for more than 30 years, and their two children are proud graduates of the School District of the Chathams. He enjoys staying physically active, building and fixing things, traveling, spending time outdoors, and connecting with family, neighbors, and friends.
Dr. Mary Donohue, Superintendent’s Representative
Dr. Mary Donohue, Chatham Township Resident, has served on the Library of the Chathams Board of Trustees for the past two years as the Superintendent’s Representative, bringing decades of educational leadership and a deep appreciation for the library’s role in the community.
A longtime advocate for lifelong learning, Dr. Donohue has experienced the library from many perspectives. Her own children grew up attending library programs, and as they became teenagers, the library provided an invaluable space to study, learn, and connect. She believes the Library of the Chathams is an essential community resource, offering exceptional programming and opportunities for residents of all ages.
Dr. Donohue is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the School District of the Chathams. Her career includes teaching in the Millburn Public Schools, serving as the principal of Saint Patrick School in Chatham, and holding leadership roles in Harding Township School District before joining the Chatham district administration. She holds a master’s degree in education and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Saint Elizabeth University.
As both an educator and library trustee, Dr. Donohue is committed to fostering a love of learning and ensuring the library continues to serve as a welcoming center for education, enrichment, and community connection.
Fredric J. Pocci, Trustee Emeritus
Fredric J. Pocci has dedicated his career to engineering, public service, and community leadership. A Bronx native and longtime Chatham Township resident, Fred served as Executive Director and Authority Engineer of the North Hudson Sewerage Authority beginning in 1991, where his leadership contributed to significant advances in wastewater management, environmental protection, and the redevelopment of the Hudson River waterfront.
Earlier in his career, Fred served as Chief Operating Officer of a major New York real estate firm, Assistant Commissioner of the New York City Departments of Buildings and General Services, and Chief Engineer of the Divisions of Sewer Construction and Sewer Maintenance, New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
Fred has also given generously to his community. He served on the Chatham Township Committee from 1997 to 2002, including two terms as Mayor, and held leadership roles on the Planning Board, Public Safety Committee, and Public Works Committee. He served as a Trustee of the Library of the Chathams and as Board President through 2018. He has also served as a trustee of the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department and was elected a Lifetime Honorary Member. He helped establish the Chip in for the Children Foundation, supporting educational opportunities and scholarships for children in the community for over thirty-five years.
A licensed professional engineer in ew York and New Jersey, Fred brings decades of expertise, civic leadership, and a deep commitment to community service to his legacy with the Library of the Chathams.
